Cool No system sounds? Please help!

    Hi,

I realize that Lubuntu is all about being lightweight and that is why I use it in the first place, but without system sounds my experience has been a bit handicapped. I don't mind not having login/logout sounds but currently I have heard no system sounds (clicks/errors/pop-ups) at all. I have spent hours in vain trying to look for sound packs or settings that would give me an option of having system sounds. Right now there is no way to tell if my click on the Chromium icon has been registered or not (sometimes I have to wait 5 seconds before realizing that I need to click again, sometimes I end up opening it twice).

    I wanted to know if
    1) it is normal to have no system sounds in a fresh lubuntu install (i'm running 12.04 currently)
    2) there is a way to install/get system sounds to work

Also, I can play music files and youtube videos perfectly.

    Thanks!

I am just answering as nobody else has; I'm new to Lubuntu, but not Linux.

1 = Yes (no system sound program installed by default in LXDE)

2 = Probably, like everything else in Linux; may have to install part of the Gnome project for it.

Sorry I can't be of more help. (Have you tried Google ?)

Be sure that pavucontrol, pulseaudio, pulseaudio-utils and libgtk-3-0 are all installed. Then play with the different settings in pulseaudio volume control and the controls in your player until you get sound. http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/Tuning.html#17 .

Have you looked in Preferences/Customize Look And Feel to see if System Sounds are checkmarked?
    I'm a man, I can re-install, if I have to, I guess!

I don't believe that anything is wrong. There are no start up sounds in Lubuntu which is great for those of us who have been muting them for years. you said that you can play music so your speakers are working and your music software is working.
