Monitoring Adaptec HW RAID (6805) with 12.04 and Nagios
I recently spent a couple days trying to get software loaded that would let me monitor my Adaptec hardware RAID - drove me nuts not being able to find easy-to-follow instructions, so I want to write up my steps to save someone else some time.
I have a Bytespeed 2U server with an Adaptec hardware RAID, 6805
Various sources point to the fact that Adaptec doesn't release source code for monitors its RAID controllers, but does release some partially-working software. I found software for the 6805 here:
Download Adaptec Storage Manager:
http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/speed/r..._18837_tgz.htm
Unzip / untar, copy arcconf to the server
run the following:
For those that may need the info:Code:sudo chmod +x arcconf sudo apt-get install libstdc++5 sudo ./arcconf GETCONFIG 1
chmod +x - give arcconf the ability to be ran
libstdc++5: required for use with arcconf - will give errors w/out installing
arcconf GETCONFIG 1: returns status of RAID controller #1
The results from GETCONFIG should show your controller, statues, etc. I expect there are already Nagios plugins to monitor this info, but I'll post back as I figure this out.
