    DVD Burner?

Totally new to Ubuntu and looking for a simple DVD burner that works--Brasero proved a dud. Any suggestions would be great (instructions in how to install would be great also)

k3b is top notch. It's in the repos, so you can install it with the Software Center.

    Edit: I got ninja'd.

Xfburn works for me ...... others may recommend K3B , but be aware that installing K3B also installs a bunch of KDE stuff you might not want.

+1 on k3b. I've also had problems off and on with Brasero and k3b just plain works. Don't worry about the kde stuff it installs - it won't hurt at all.

BTW - just so we might know - what kind of problems are you encountering with Brasero?

Just tried the xfburner--thought I had burnt a movie on, but when I tried to open it to watch, the disc didn't even come up as in my computer

    Re: DVD Burner?

Am now trying K3B--go to burn a disc and get the following error messages:
The project does not contain all necessary DVD files.
The resulting DVD will most likely not be playable on a HiFi DVD player.
Could not determine the size of resulting image file.

    Re: DVD Burner?

Would have been helpful if you had said earlier that you wanted to convert ordinary video files to DVD format.

In theory Brasero should do it, but I've had that mysterious "missing packages" message too. In the end I used Devede to make a DVD image and then used Brasero to burn the disc image, which it does fine. In Devede you should specify that you want an ISO disc image.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.
