win 8 secure boot and ubuntu

Does ubuntu have a plan to reroute through Microsoft's secure boot? Not that it matters, because if i had the choice between the two I would delete windows all together.

Have a look at this link.

    http://arstechnica.com/business/news...x-installs.ars

I understand that this issue is a hardware one and should the necessary settings in the BIOS be available then the required changes can be made to allow a Linux installation to take place.

It's not clear yet how manufacturers will implement Secure Boot, and whether it'll be an issue for Linux. I suspect it'll be an issue on some hardware but not others.

For x86 yes, but I don't agree with the author's assertion that ARM devices will only be tablets, or that Linux doesn't run on ARM.

not that this will happen over night in any way but I have said this before andI am sticking to it , the big companys that been making there money on computer are doing what they have always done they are gearing for a quick shift to where then money is soon more and more who want to continue to use traditional PC are going to be turning to Linux and other like operating systems while industry makes the shift to smarter phone tablets and charging to provide cloud services and packages ..

anyone old enough seen this in the late 70s and through the 80s when the big corps were heavy invested in CD radio when the bottom dropped most even went nearly broke to shift toward computer, cable and satilite and hardware software theere new cash cow look around today its happening again and its many many of the same companies ..

At this point, EVERYONE is simply guessing -- with all the possibilities still in play.

Once a Win8 ARM device actually comes out, we will then be able to see if it IS able to be hacked to handled non-Win8 OS.

Until then, it's still just speculation.
    Ubuntu 14.04, Mint 17; MS Win 8.1.
Will not respond to PM requests for support -- use the forums.

At the very least, secure boot will make it difficult to install Linux. The FSF seems to think it is likely that secure boot would lock out Linux. With the history of the players involved, including messing with the bootloader, there are a lot of risks. Keep in mind that when installing dual boot Windows/Linux, Windows does not play nice and erases parts.

I'd take anything the FSF said about it with a massive pinch of salt.
