Yeah I think keeping Windows 7 for a while is a pretty good idea. My ASUS laptop is dual boot (Linux 11.10/ Win Vista), even thought I don't use it very much, its goos to have it there, because you might need to do stuff that you cant do in Linux, such as accessing programs only available in Win.
Alternatively, just run a live CD for a while until you fall in love with Linux. You can still mount flash drives and stuff if you want to save stuff you make, like spreadsheets and whatnot.
But welcome to Linux, they are a friendly bunch here. And NEVER forget to ask lots and lots of questions. Trial and sometimes error is the best way to learn, me thinks.
