Thumbs up Just a note of appreciation to all of you.

I just wanted to write to you all - every last one of you members on this site who've been so patient with me and other newcomers to Linux distros and needing help learning how to do things.

I recently went to http://askubuntu.org - and most of the time when I asked questions, a lot of the responses I got were snobbish and rude to things that I needed help with.

    So TL;DR

Thank you to all of you here at UbuntuForums for being so kind and nice to noobs at Linux.

    Sincerest,

    Alex

I too asked a few questions on the askubuntu.com website. Got one reply 9which didn't solve the problem) Other question didn't get one reply, although had over 100 views. I found the site fairly unhelpful, as questions asked quickly went down the list and a few days later were to be found on page 10 or 15 (where no one looks) At least here, you can find your own posts easily and quickly.

If your question is not responded to right away then it's likely missing information, you need to keep adding the results of your research in your question as you try to solve your problem, this not only bumps your question but gives the next person a better chance of answering it since you've added more information.

Also, you can click on your username at the top of the site to see a list of your questions.

Lack of information from the questioner, is a problem no matter where you go. I don't know how many times I've asked for additional information when answering a question. The ones I always laugh at are the questions about video problems, where all the computer information is included except for make/model of graphics adapter.

    You are welcome.

I would also point out that there is Live help available on IRC where alot of us members hang out.

    +1 to the IRC channels.

Maybe you could stick around and help out some other "noobs" (don't really like the word) with the same problems if you feel that grateful...

Ask Ubuntu is an amazing resources, but it is prone to the same issues that can be experienced here on the forum as well as on IRC... sometimes the person with the answer you seek isn't available and it is always best to be patient. (Or if patience isn't your strong point then purchase support )

Most of the people who've replied on there have been just flat out Snobs - I'm glad that UbuntuForums is a nicer place. Thank you for that.

    Did you mean http://askubuntu.com/ ?

I never posted anything on Ask ubuntu, so I don't know how their attitudes or how helpful they are. I did find some questions and their answer to be useful. Specially the correct terminology for Unity

I'm glad that you feel welcome in this forum. We do strive to be as helpful as possible.
