Installed 11.10 using Application in Windows 64bit

    Hello to everyone.

I have installed ubuntu using the new download and install within the Windows installation.

For the most part Ubuntu is working fine but now and again Firefox will stop responding and the screen will dim, this can happen for a few seconds and then will become responsive again.

The other little gripe is that the whole OS seems a little slow, like when I click on the software center or click to load up firefox, it take a little while for the window to open up.

I have the recommended display driver installed for my Nvidia 470 GTX and I have done all the updates that are available for the OS.

Any kind of reason why I might be having these problems?

    Thanks if you can help.

With specs like that I can only think of some reasons your system is slow: You installed using Wubi, which can make your performance suffer a bit, and the tabs you loaded has Flash, and Flash on Linux is freakishly sloooow.
(But don't take my words now, you should wait for some real expert to show up)

A window greying out in Ubuntu is the same thing as when task manager shows "(Not Responding)" next to a process in Windows. It means that the OS thinks that the application isn't responding to messages from the OS fast enough and may be locked up.

Hate to be the bringer of bad news ... but the slowdown and hanging of Firefox is mainly why I switched over (in MS Windows) to using Chrome instead of FF. FF would simply hang or quit responding. Chrome doesn't do that.

I kept upgrading all the way to FF v11 -- and the problems still did not go away.

Try using another Browser and see if the problems remain.
    Ubuntu 20.04, Mint 19.10; MS Win10 Pro.
Will not respond to PM requests for support -- use the forums.

I will try that. I have also formatted a spare internal harddrive and will do a full install of Unbuntu of there to see if that helps.

It not then it is off to Chromium I go I guess.
