Let's load the most likely driver and see if we kick this thing to life:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe brcmsmac
    iwconfig
Now do we have a wireless interface? Does it scan?
    Code:
    sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
If you do not, let's see if there are informative messages here:
    Code:
    dmesg | grep brcm

Thanks a million chili555, the wireless is now working after the modprobe and iwconfig commands! I really appreciate this. I'd love to be able to help people on the forums, any advice on how to get better with Linux?

One more thing, upon restarting my machine I had to reenter these commands to get the wireless to work again. Is there a config file I can edit to make the changes permanent? Thanks for your help.

First, we ought to be sure brcmsmac loads automatically:
    Code:
    sudo su
    echo brcmsmac >> /etc/modules
    exit
I suggest you read threads and look for problems you think you can solve. Wait before you post and see how some of the frequent thread answerers handle it. Learn from their experience.

Google the pci.id or the usb.id; for example:
Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4727]
Google it with 'solved' and 'Ubuntu.' Copy the solution.

Most of all, when you make a mistake, and you will if you try hard enough, admit it and apologize.

Subscribe to the threads you answer so you get an email when there is a reply. If you take on a case, carry it to completion. Feel free to PM me if you get stuck.

    Have fun!

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570-1024D9U - Laptop (Wireless Help)

Hi, I am also having wireless problems with my HP Pavilion DV6. I had the same problem in Ubuntu 12.04, so I thought it was a distribution problem, so I uninstalled it and put in 12.10, which is showing the exact same behavior.

Upon system start, my wifi shows it's trying to connect, then it sees my network and asks for the key, after which it tries to connect for about 30 seconds, then asks for the key again, and keeps repeating this. Wired works perfectly fine though. Can someone (maybe chili555?) help me?

The output of the required codes are below:

    ye@ubuntu:~$ lspci -nn | grep 0280
    0d:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [8086:0084]

    ye@ubuntu:~$ rfkill list all
    0: phy0: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: yes
    1: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: yes
    2: hp-bluetooth: Bluetooth

I'll be happy to help. Please start a new thread an PM me the link.

I wonder how it even tries to connect if it's hard blocked.
