Re: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570-1024D9U - Laptop (Wireless Help)

No, sorry. I got the file but deleted the partition before I pasted it.
I removed ethernet cable and restart and the wireless worked. But then after another restart it didn't.
By then I figured it had to be a Ubuntu Studio 12.04 LTS issue so I booted from a USB drive where I have easypeasy installed. Wireless worked just fine. So I found XBMCbuntu and thought I'd try it.
Was easy and fast install and wireless worked well. Not sure why but must have been something with Studio. Thank you very much for your help & input.

I think your question belongs in General Help, not Networking since it involves fan control.

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570-1024D9U - Laptop (Wireless Help)

    Worked for me!
It's been a while since I've had any problems with an Ubuntu install, basically none since 8.04. I think my older laptop's ('optima' with Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7370) wireless card might be becoming a weak link.
    Code:
    lspci -nn | grep 0280
listed: Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100 [8086:4232]. FWIW, the card worked fine with the 11.10 install, and the fresh (no upgrade) 12.04 install wouldn't even complete until I opted for no updates or network connectivity, I imagine due to this. After installed, I noticed I could see my wireless network, selected it, entered my credentials, and though it indicated it was connected, no sites would load, nor updates complete. When I tried a wired connection there was no problem so I updated the system and enabled some proprietary modem driver in hopes that the subsequent restart would fix the wireless connectivity. I found that though it again showed a successful connection there was none.

I looked at quite a few threads till I found this one, which seemed to focus on Intel hardware as opposed to the more commonly found Broadcom issues. I also found the depth of Chili's knowledge reassuring. After the solutions for the anomalous Acer driver I found someone (divamvak) listed their hardware as "Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [8086:0084]", and noted Chili's proposed solution in comment 27.
    After running:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi
    sudo modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1
the wireless was operational! So I added "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1" to the newly created /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf file as suggested, and entered:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi
    sudo modprobe iwlwifi
I've tested the persistence of this solution with a couple boots and so far so good. Can't say I know entirely what I did though; perhaps disabled wireless n and stepped back to g? Either way my connection is great, thanks Chili, I'm so glad there are experts out there.

Hi, I'm just after upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04 on a Lenovo Z570 and my wireless isn't working, can anyone help me? I have a Broadcom BCM4313 wireless card.

    Thanks a million.

Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4727]
There is plenty of controversy about the tricky 4727. There are at least two ways to get it going and it's tough to figure out which is best. Let's try the most likely first. Please run:
    Code:
    lsmod | grep -e brcmsmac -e wl
Ideally, only brcmsmac is loaded. If wl is loaded, remove it:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -r wl
Let's see if you have a wireless interface:
    Code:
    iwconfig
    Does it scan and connect?
    Code:
    sudo iwlist wlan0 scan

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570-1024D9U - Laptop (Wireless Help)

There was no output from this:
    Code:
    lsmod | grep -e brcmsmac -e wl
I don't think wl is there at all.

For the other commands, I got
    Code:
    ~$ iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.

    eth0 no wireless extensions.
    and
    Code:
    ~$ sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
    wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
