    Question Cannot connect to Pidgin/Kopete

    Hi everyone,

as I'm quite new into Linux I am posting this thread in the Absolute Beginner Talk.

Well, my problem is that I cannot connect to both GTalk nor Facebook chat (via XMPP) anymore using Pidgin (under Ubuntu 11.10). Once I try to connect I receive the following message:
"Server does not use any supported authentication method".
I've tried to reconfigure my accounts and also reinstalled Pidgin.

A friend suggested me deleting the certificates that had been created - without success.

I've also tried using Kopete in order to establish a connection which wasn't successful either.

This problem turned up last night. Before I had never had any problems with Pidgin.

Maybe someone knows how to fix this... But remember I'm a noob!

Thank you very much in advance

Are you behind a firewall... proxy maybe?

    Hi,

nope, no firewall, no proxy. I haven't changed anything to this effect.

    Logically... there's your clue.

IF Pidgin was working... then determine what changed. Did you install or update? Something you did... made the difference. Reinstalling, remember, will only work like fresh IF you also remove any hidden configuration files from the home folder.
