Canon N640p (parallel) scanner issue
Hi Ubuntu Community:
I´m a newcomer to Linux O/S, using Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric, and did pretty well so far. My wireless (pen drive) connection to Internet is working, my Samsung Laser Printer too, managed to install well Oracle Java in Firefox, etc. etc.
I got some wonderful tips from you, and from some web pages dedicated to this outstanding O/S. Now, to the point:
I own an old but good working Canon N640p ex parallel port scanner. Tried to follow SANE PROJECT instructions, installed latest version of XSANE from Repository, installed LIBIEEE library (this is a S/W for detecting attached Parallel devices), but to no avail...
System (better said: XSANE) doesn´t recognize anything attached to the parallel port...
I know this is a pretty old device, but still working perfectly, so I guess if somebody can give me some lights about this, and (if I´m not asking too much), give me a more or less ¨step by step procedure¨ to get my old iron working in Linux.
NOTE: SANE states that this device is supported completely in ECP parallel mode. I adjusted it in the BIOS, but still not working. Also uncommented ¨#canon_pp¨ line in configuration DLL file as suggested, but still the scanner is invisible...
Thanks a lot in advance. Best regards, Ubuntu Community !!!
