Just right click on an empty space in the panel and select "add to panel" then scroll down to "Indicator Applet" select it and click on "Add"

The speaker icon and the mail icon should be back in place, you can move them around or lock them in place by right clicking on them and selecting "Move" or "Lock to panel"

    Hope this helps.

    Re: speaker volume

On very rare occasions I have had it disappear from the panel after changing sound settings for no apparent reason, and it always re-applies without issues .

    It works now, though.

    Good Luck.
