Personally, I am not a great fan of the Gnome Network Manager and so I prefer to configure networks the old-fashioned way.
I suggest you first open a terminal and take a look at the file /etc/network/interfaces with the "cat" command:
Code:
cat /etc/network/interfaces
You will probably find that it just contains the following two lines:
Code:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
If you use an editor (such as nano) to add your wired-connection details to this file it should make it persistent after a reboot. eg.
First copy the old file as a backup:
Code:
sudo cp /etc/network/interfaces /etc/network/interfaces_orig
Then edit the file:
Code:
sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces
Add the following details of your connection. eg.
Code:
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.250
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
Also add the following line:
Save the file in nano with Ctrl-o then Ctrl-x to exit nano.
Check the resulting file looks like the following with the cat command:
Code:
cat /etc/network/interfaces
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.250
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
auto eth0
Reboot and check if the wired connection works OK.
