    tablet support for ubuntu questions

    Hi,
My mum has an acer tablet which is running W7 on it. It's extremely slow because well..it's windows 7 and it no doubt probably does not lack the memory needed to even run it efficiently.

I was thinking about using ubuntu on they're when 12.04 comes out. Even though that no doubt uses a bit quite a bit of memory not as much compared to windows. Anyway digressing from the point I wanted to ask 2 questions:

    1) Will the new ubuntu have touch screen support and how well is the touch screen support>

    2) Will it have a on screen keyboard like windows has? Or do I need to install that after and where from.

    Any answers would be appreciated.

I have found some links for you that show what might be possible.

I am on 12.04 Beta 2 right now and there are installed libraries for touchscreen as standard. They are no good to me as I do not have a touchscreen. But it seems that work is being done on touchscreen use in Ubuntu.

The key to all of this will be the processor in the tablet and whether there is a Ubuntu ISO for that processor.

    Regards.

It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

Thanks for this, after posting this I did some more research and it seems like Ubuntu is working on building a tablet version in the near future. However, this kubuntu active seems more promising as it is designed for tablets instead of 12.04 just having features.

Alot of the tutorials seem quite a bit of work to get basic function going as it's for my mum and lets just say she's not very tech savy like myself.

I think I will look into this kubuntu active though rather then considering 12.04. Thanks for the input and much appreciated.

I'm going to buy a tablet soon with android 4.0 on it, I'm wondering what happens if I install another OS on it and make a mess of it - is it easy enough to reinstall android?

From what I've seen depending on the android tab you can have multiple os's on it.
