Buying sound and video card for ubuntu computer

    Hi,

I'm thinking of putting together a PC which ubuntu will be installed on, I'd like to choose the best sound, video, wireless cards for this system that will be most compatible with ubuntu, could anyone recommend what I should go for?

You really need to tell us what you expect to do with this system.
Gaming? Watching HD video? Are you looking for an audiofile grade sound card?

Intel's HD Audio spec isn't bad. If you find onboard audio that is "HD audio" it usually sounds pretty good.

Standard onboard audio can be lacking. I have an Asus Xonar DX audio card which is excellent, and it works fine with Ubuntu. Their Essence ST/STX series cards are the high end models, but the DX sounds fine to me.

For video I got a Zotac/Nvidia geforce GT 430, which is great for HD video, but serious gamers will want more.
