    Re: Kickstarter Games for Linux

It was kind of a happy accident, while I was writing this thread about non-game Linux crowdfunding campaigns.

    Re: Ongoing crowdfunding campaigns

Found your thread while checking if anybody already posted about OpenOctave. Quite happy to have found more than I was looking for.
    Thanks for the links.

    edit: Oh, and two more:

    Re: Ongoing crowdfunding campaigns

The funding drive for Blender video editor failed and it was even cited as a bad example of crowdfunding in an article: http://www.heise.de/open/artikel/Die...l-1478542.html
Blenderheads wondered why the person behind this did not go through the proper channels, Blender Foundation/Ton.

Hehe, yeah I was just coming to announce the same thing
Maybe Pixel cup would fit better in the game thread? The game thread guys are starting to organize increasingly: http://www.facebook.com/LinuxGamers

Unfortunately Openoctave doesn't look like it's going to make it.. It's inspired by Christianity, so maybe the campaign should be promoted in some Christian web communities?! If anyone can think of a way, don't hesitate to just act and spread the word.

    Re: Ongoing crowdfunding campaigns

    Drifter: A Space Trading GameNEW
    "What about Linux?

"I've been a huge supporter of Linux since the mid-90s and there is no technical reason that I can see why a Linux version of Drifter is not possible. However, I am unsure I can provide and support a Linux build at launch and I'd rather not commit to a timeline for it so it wouldn't be right promising a Linux version to potential Kickstarter backers. That said, if the campaign receives enough funding it will increase the chances of a Linux release dramatically but please don't make that the sole reason you're backing the project."
I can't see why he wants to limit his funders. As I don't do Windows in any form, I have little reason to back a Windows game.

    more:
"Thanks for the Linux support despite my inability to promise anything at launch While I've moved to OSX in recent years I cut my teeth on Slackware starting in 1997 and used Linux regularly up until 2008 or so, so I feel a Linux version should definitely happen at some point. Cheers!"

H-E-double-hockey-sticks NO! I am a follower of Jesus and I know first hand that using any form of mass-media to alert Christians to helpful new technologies (in this century) is the fastest way to get it sidelined by naysayers. Also donating to such efforts is the fastest way to get the worst kind of 'please support our cause' spam. Having a televangelist call it "the devil's work" is far more effective way to get publicity. The best way to publicize this to Christians is to demo it to a church leader who will be using it.
Jesus made us fishers of men. Sadly, many of us prefer to use a pole rather than casting a net.
Thanks for posting it here, I'll be donating (anonymously).

    Re: Ongoing crowdfunding campaigns

Well dang, Zerothis.. Not even a forum for Christian music? Openoctave was created in the first place to help the project leader's wife compose Christian music.

Updates for today: Kinoraw reached their (very modest) goal and I added LITMUX - A Novel Virtual Desktop Management System for Linux.
