Linux Mint uses the Ubuntu repositories, so almost anything available on Linux Mint is also available for Ubuntu, and just as easy (and free) to install...
I wouldn't recommend trying to save packages from Linux Mint and use them on Ubuntu 12.04. Reason: The current Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu 11.10, and there are probably changes in 12.04 which may cause problems for running the older software. Besides, you want newer versions of your programs, right?
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.
