Question VGA > Composite Interlaces Video?

Using a netbook (intel graphics) to output VGA through a convertor to composite into another screen.

    Like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kanaan-PC-...item4ab4209f22

Video playback on the external screen is not deinterlaced. (Using mplayer, but same problem with VLC and Parole)

I have tested the VGA output to the same screen and that is deinterlaced (as it is on the netbook screen). I will have to use the composite output though for my eventual requirements as this is only a test rig. The output screen is "dumb" though, and has no settings or inbuilt deinterlacing.

So it seems the VGA > Composite Convertor I am using is undoing all the good work done by mplayer. Have tried all and every deinterlacing filter I know of but it makes no difference.

Other than re-encoding all my video, can anyone suggest a way to send deinterlaced video that stays deinterlaced as it passes through the convertor?

It does say on the info for the converter "supports interlace formats" which is the default for most composite devices.
For £10, that is probably all you will get.
These units are usually for output to an older CRT device.
I think that what you need is a scandoubler or "flicker fixer".
These devices have more complex electronics and cost considerably more.
The screen may only support interlaced input on composite.

Thanks for the insight. I am getting some tearing as well, on all screens, horizontal middle of screen. (compositing is off)
