    Change Ubuntu desktop environment

    SOLVED!
    Hello all,

I've had Ubuntu on my laptop for about a year now. I'm loving it, aside from the little hiccups that happen, such as not being able to find a specific piece of software, or not knowing how to do something in linux yet. Well, my "problem" isn't really a problem necessarily, I just want to branch out. I've tried dual booting with things like Macpup and Debian, but I can't leave the wonderful world of the Ubuntu Software Center. I'd still like to mess around though, so I'm thinking about trying some different desktop environments, such as XFCE or KDE.

I found a site that gives terminal codes, such as
    Code:
sudo apt-get remove adium-theme-ubuntu apg appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-qt at-spi2-core bamfdaemon banshee banshee-extension-soundmenu banshee-extension-ubuntuonemusicstore baobab Which promises to "get back to a pure XFCE desktop", but I'm not really sure what he means by pure. I'm also not sure how easy it would be to get back to default Ubuntu should I not like my adventures. I'm basically looking for a little guidance, and some reassurances that it's not that hard to get back to default.

I'm on an acer aspire one, so XFCE would be nice for a quicker interface(maybe), but I don't really want to install Xubuntu and Kubuntu and then reinstall ubuntu from live CDs just to try them out. Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Change Ubuntu desktop environment

You don't need to remove the desktop you have installed. You can instead have multiple desktops and choose what one you want to use at log-in. example:

To install xfce desktop to your system, open a terminal and enter:

    sudo apt-get install xfce4

    to install xubuntu:

    sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

    to install gnome-classic:

    sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback

and like I said, just choose which one you want to run at boot.

    any questions?

    Hey,

First off, thank you. Second, that is just awesome! I installed XFCE and xubuntu desktop and I've been messing around with them. I honestly can't believe that it's so easy.

    Thanks again, I appreciate it.
