If it doesn't also report 'device present' that strongly suggests that the netr28ux.inf file doesn't cover your device:

Where did you get the file? Is it for Windows XP? Are there any clues here?

I got the file from a Windows 7 64bit installation.

dmesg doesn't display anything usefull about ndiswrapper.

Here is a snip from man ndiswrapper:

DESCRIPTION
ndiswrapper is two parts: user space tool that is used to install Win‐
dows XP drivers and kernel module to load the Windows XP drivers. Both
are called ndiswrapper.

I suggest you remove your 7 drivers and try again. Post back if you need additional guidance.

Where do I get xp drivers?

On the driver's disk there's only a Setup.exe.

Already tried... If I download Windows Driver i get a .exe

Right-click on the EXE and open it with the archive manager. Extract all files into a new folder. There should be the INF-file

Do you have or does a friend have a Windows computer you can install the exe on? You can then grab the XP files and after we're sure it's working on Ubuntu, remove it. Be sure to get both 32- and 64-bit versions along with the .inf, .sys and .cat files. Better to have everything.

Did you install Wine? If so, make a fake installation of the driver via Wine and copy the files.
