Shuttleworth highlights server growth as Ubuntu overtakes RHEL on top websites

He published a graph which indicates that Ubuntu deployments have surpassed those of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) among the top one million most popular websites."

I really wish he would shut up sometimes.

He compares Ubuntu to RHEL when Ubuntu is free. When somebody points to CentOS he says you have to aggregate Ubuntu, Debian to compare to Fedora, RHEL, and CentOS. It depends on what arbitrary things you are comparing.

Meanwhile it's been 7 years and Canonical still isn't profitable.

I'd rather use Redhat in an enterprise than Ubuntu, but that's just me.

Perhaps you have a point, BUT it is nevertheless quite interesting to notice the trends. Check out the graph: http://upsilon.cc/~zack/blog/posts/2...tchy_headline/

If you read the comments to the article quoted above, you'll see that it is claimed that for instance NASDAQ is using Gentoo. But apparently only 0.4 percent of the top one million websites run on Gentoo.

RHEL make sense for a number of reasons, and obviously support is amongst them.

But whatever the case, I'm quite happy rocking Debian. Doesn't ever go down, no glitches, stable as a rock, cooks me breakfast in the morning...

Wait. RHEL has the beautiful babe who delivers the breakfast, right?

    Ok, I'm switching to RHEL!
