Hp pavilion dv4000 wifi hardware switch

Ok I have this old laptop and I installed ubuntu 11.10 on it. I got the wifi card to work for about a week. Then I took this laptop to work and i turned the wireless off with the button on the top of the ksyboard. So then when i turn it on again at home my wifi card does not work when i press the hardware switch and my laptop tells me that wireless is disabled by hardware switch. Im normally pretty good with computers but this problem has stumped me. my laptop is the hp pavilion dv4000.

    Pleas help...

I'd like to thank everybody for helping me with this problem!
After hard work I have rewired the hardware switch to go straight to the wireless card so... solved.

Your sarcasm is not going to get you any help, here!

You didn't get a reply because you bought a machine DESIGNED to work with MS Windows, not with Linux. When you install an OS the machine was NOT designed to use, you often have to end up living with some limitations.

These buttons nearly always require special drivers -- which are generally NOT available in Linux distros.

Don't be surprised if other "buttons" (like screen brightness, or speaker volume) don't work, either -- and the same reason will then apply.
    Ubuntu 20.04, Mint 19.10; MS Win10 Pro.
Will not respond to PM requests for support -- use the forums.
