    Lightbulb amaroK supporting aac/mp4/m4a/m4b

    Hi folks,

with amaroK version 1.4.0 support for iPod's has become stable and very convenient.
On thing I missed was the lack of support for aac/mp4 tag reading and writing.
What I did was to rebuilt the official packages from the kubuntu repository with mp4-support.
Secondly I applied a patch to xine to get it recognize .m4b-files.
Now all my audiobooks play fine with amaroK.

    #####
    Quick install notes:
    - you need libexscalibar1 (see my 2nd post)
    - grab the following packages:
    amarok, amarok-engines, amarok-xine and libxine-main1
(you only need libxine-dev if you want to compile software by yourself)
    - cd to the folder with the debs and type "sudo dpkg -i *.deb"
    #####

All files including my package signing key can be found here.
    Feedback is highly welcome.

    Have fun,
    Jan

This has seemed to work perfectly for me. Thank you!! Perhaps in the future though include more instructions. For those wondering what to do with the packages I moved them into a folder. Then from terminal cd to that directory and 'sudo dpkg -i *'.

Some dependencies like libexscarab1 or libpq4 version 8.1.4 are not available in Ubuntu repositories and must be searched on alternate locations, Debian testing or unstable, etc.

Right, libexscalibar1 is not part of official dapper (still amarok version 1.3.9). This package is essential for the new moodbar feature.
It can be found on the official amaroK (http://amarok.kde.org) page under "Download Amarok"->"1.4.0a for Dapper Drake (official)". Just follow the instructions given on this page or download the missing pakages here. libpq4 8.1.4 is in dapper-security, you probably need to tweak your sources.list (uncomment the repository).

This is a howto section. Your howto doesn't tell users howto do it by them selves so please improve it to make it more understandable.

EDIT: Ups, shouldn't post when your tired. All the working debs seems to be n your server.
Ubuntu Dapper with XGL = totally addicted.

Uhm, new to this stuff. How (and in what order) should I install these?

This broke my amarok installation. It won't even let me uninstall it now so that I could attempt to reinstall it.

    Code:
    kenny@Archimedes:~$ sudo apt-get remove amarok
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
amarok-engines: Depends: amarok (= 2:1.4.0a-0ubuntu2~AAC) but it is not going to be installed
amarok-xine: Depends: amarok (= 2:1.4.0a-0ubuntu2~AAC) but it is not going to be installed
libxine-dev: Depends: libxv-dev but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libxvmc-dev but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

    UPDATE
was able to finally remove amarok, and reinstall it. However, installing these files breaks mine.

Can you tell me what happened when you installed my packages, please.

Sure, it gave me the same error as above when I was trying to install all of the packages that I found on your site. And after I did get them installed, amarok just wouldn't run. So I went back through and took all of those back off, and reinstalled amarok from the repos.

Let me ask you something, does your packaged version still use the aRTs sound system, or something else native to Gnome?
