    rebooting with Ubuntu

Hiya all, I've got an old laptop running windows vista but i cannot find the original disc to wipe and start again. If i put Ubuntu onto a cd can i achieve a total wipe and be up and running with just Ubuntu.
    Hope this makes sense.
    Cheers

    Sounds like you
    1) have a windows machine
    2) would like to remove windows and install ubuntu

    Yes, you can do this.
    1) Back up all your data to external media (external hard drive, cloud drive accessible from both windows and ubuntu).
    2) Download and burn ubuntu iso to a dvd
    3) put the disk in reboot and follow the on screen instructions.

I'd advocate during setup having a separate /home and / partition (in addition to any others you might want).

Also when you setup the partition you can allocate how much space you want to be given so if you desire to put a version of windows back on your pc you can have the right amount of space for each OS
