Visual Boy Advance with no Menu

I put VBA on Ubuntu and I have no menu; GVBA is even worse. I dont know how to set controls, etc. with no menu. Here is a screenshot of what I am talking about.

Is that on an Ubuntu with Unity?

If so, try booting in to the Ubuntu Classic desktop and see what happens there. It may just be that the program isn't playing along with Unity.

At the risk of sounding even more of a newb, how would I go into classic?

    Edit: I am using 11.10
