Thank you for your answer! I readed the first pages of this thread but unfortunately no method functioned...

** I added the script ini /etc/init/backlight.conf like you suggested in #10.

    ** I added the line echo 0 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness in /etc/rc.local

** I added the script of #40 in /etc/pm/sleep.d/10_dell_xps_ultrabook that is executable.

I Rebooted every time, no change.

If I write sudo start backlight the answer is stop/waiting. Why do you thing is this?

When I change /sys/.../backlight the indicator (Fn+F4) is at minimum but no change in the brightness and no change with (Fn+F5).

hmm that's too bad. the "stop/waiting" is fine, because it just runs real quick and stops.

Looking over on the dell forums, it may be related to bios or kernel:

Are you fully up to date? You could also try the sputnik ppas.

Re: Dell XPS 13 ultrabook compatibility

I already added the sputnik ppa (or at least I think...)
    uname -a gives back:
    Linux 3.5.0-19-generic #30+kamal11~DellXPS-Ubuntu SMP
    dmidecode -s bios-version gives back
    A06
Could be one of these the problem?
I took the kernel from here:
    https://launchpad.net/~canonical-hwe...sputnik-kernel

    Thanks!

Since this weekend I've started getting an warning from Software Update that tells me these sources are unavaible. Anyone else getting this?

    Has someone moved the PPA's?

Re: Dell XPS 13 ultrabook compatibility

I just purchased a refurbished XPS 13 from Dell (2nd generation), and I cannot for the life of me get Ubuntu to install via USB. For the last few hours I've tried every utility I can find to help create a Ubuntu USB stick, and they complete the stick without issue, but when booting from USB the system simply says "Operation System not found".

I have made literally no progress and am super frustrated. Anyone have any idea what in the world could be going on?

Using another laptop i have verified that my USB stick properly boots ubuntu when booting via USB, but I still get "Operation System not found" when booting from USB on the XPS 13. I've tried both USB ports - no dice...

Re: Dell XPS 13 ultrabook compatibility

I've seen some talk about XPS 13 ultrabooks not being able to boot GPT partitions and am wondering if this is somehow related? Although it appears as if all the USB keys I've created were FAT32 filesystems.

I'm caving in and am going to go buy a USB DVD Drive!

Just to close the loop on this, I bought a USB DVD-RW drive and installed Ubuntu (12.04 Sputnik iso) without a hitch. So weird.

    Hi

I usually format the whole pen drive to a fat32 partition, and just use Unetbootin

always worked fine so far. try with another usb stick
