Single boot on Macbook Pro 7.1 - few concerns

Been using Ubuntu latest on mbp alone. Few issues concern me is lengthy boot and shut down times compared to both os x/boot camp windows.

Had dim brightness issue, but after updates and restart it came back to normal.
Trackpad isn't as smooth like in osx/windows.
Is there way we can change horrid font in Mozilla. Mine looks very ugly.

The boot time will always be a problem. You can reduce the grub menu from 10 seconds to 5 /etc/default/grub.
Other than that I would love to hear what people have to suggest. Oh and the fonts, maybe this will help:

I'm using a 2009 Macbook unibody with 11.10 on it. SSD and 8Gb of RAM. I like it except for the battery life, I have to constantly stay on top of it. Manage the display brightness and bluetooth to name a few. If you are looking at jumping ship from OS X and want to be different then do it. Just have to understand you are loosing the comfort and control of Apple to comforting and controlling things yourself.

Do you use windows with VM by chance? Like I want to play WoW in windows smoothly

but dont want to dual partition just for it.

Sorry, haven't played any games on my Mac. I'm going to take a guess and say you should dual boot for that, for better performance.

If you're running Mac OS X on a Mac, you're already not running Windows. Moreover, the F/OSS community is always at a disadvantage supporting Apple's hardware. Therefore, I've really never seen the point myself in running Linux as a desktop OS on a Mac.

Now, taking an existing Mac and repurposing it as a Linux-based server to get continued service use out of it, I can totally see (in fact, I do this myself).
