    Indeed, most useless forums I have ever seen. Especially it irritates me, when they say: You are most valuable customers

    Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

    HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Ed, Intel HD 3000, AMD 7470m, HDMI Intel/AMD: working/working, VGA Intel/AMD: not tested/not tested

    I don't have a specific model number since this was a customized laptop from their website.

    Also, I actually did not have to build fglrx from source; I installed fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle (v8.960) from the Ubuntu restricted archives, then proceeded with the instructions in the original post starting from "configure the X server for the first time". All worked fine; I can switch modes as described, and the outputs from fglrxinfo and others makes sense.

    However, I will note that my graphics - or, possibly, my decoding - performance is far *worse* with the discrete driver. With the discrete GPU, I cannot play a medium-bitrate 1080p .mp4 without massive stuttering (tried totem, vlc, and mplayer). With the integrated Intel graphics, it plays just fine, although I do get annoying tearing when the video pans. So I can't really win there.

    Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

    I'm running Mint 13, but since that is ubuntu-based i followed these instructions, except that I used the latest ATI driver: version 12.6

    i actually just ran the catalyst GUI and you can do the switching right from there if you can't remember the command line prompts. this makes me think that editing the file in the Xsessions folder is no longer neccessary?

    i hit one major snag in the install process: not sure how but i had a file /etc/modprobe.b/blacklist-local.conf that said:

    blacklist fglrx

    so after i ran your instructions and rebooted, X wouldn't start b/c xorg.conf was looking for fglrx, but this other file was blacklisting it. followed the instructions to reset xorg.conf and then deleted that file since that 1 line was its only contents. then i was able to switch between the 2!

    so this works for me with:
    Samsung Series 7 NP700Z5A, Intel Core i7 267SQM, AMD Radeon HD 6750M

    (i'm not sure what the rest of that line is about HDMI/VGA.. i've only tested the laptop and not any external displays)

    one caveat though, is that running the integrated graphics card breaks Cinnamon since the Cinnamon desktop requires 3d acceleration.

    Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

    Hi all ,
    I've just finished installing Catalyst as described in first post this thread. Sadly, something is wrong with integrated GPU mode - I'm getting only wallpaper, no Unity panel and other apps. I use Vostro 3550 with Radeon 6630M, Ubuntu 12.04 x86 and installed newest Catalyst 12.6.

    Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    -----------------

    I read few posts from this topic and found solution. The problem was traditionally with direct rendering. I made some changes in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10fglrx. Now it looks:
    Code:
    LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib/fglrx/dri
    if [ `uname -m` = 'i686' ]; then
      if [ -d /usr/lib/fglrx/dri ]; then
        LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=${LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH}:/dri:/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri
        if [ ! -z $LD_LIBRARY_PATH ]; then
        LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
        fi
        LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}/usr/lib32
        export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
      fi
    fi
    export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH
    And direct rendering works fine. If you still have this problem just check what gives "uname -m" and locate file 915_dri.so.

    Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

    I just tried the suggested tricks in the first post on my relatives new hp g6 1300 which uses intel/amd hybrid graphics.
    No luck Too bad, my relative wanted to try unity 3d, but after messing around his now back to his win7 again (altough i saved the dualboot until later
    Anyone knows if someone is working on a real solution for this? More and more notebooks seems to use the hybrid cards-

    Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

    Hi there,

    I am about to do a complete reinstall on my notebook including a Precise/Win7 dualboot and wondered: If the driver installation were to fail, which in my case is likely due to the fact that I am running an Acer 3820TG with a HD5650, would I have to completely reinstall Ubuntu to revert the changes and go back to the initial state? And even though this might not be directly related to the topic at hand: Can I reinstall Ubuntu without compromising my Windows installation?

    Thank you very much in advance.

    P.S.: First post on the Ubuntu forums, yay. (albeit not my very first one, to tell the truth; just forgot the login details on another account)

    As seen... both drivers are been loaded... but the EE line says that fglrx doesnt support intel driver... i guess its not recognin' the fglrx as the main board, as i wanted =]... even PowerXpress its ok... but... does not seem to be working when the X is started..... Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

    the guys at hp finally responded to my thread in the hp forums
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Noteboo...c/td-p/1681567

    thats the post and here is the link they referred me too - how to switch graphics while fixed mode is set in bios.....IN WINDOWS through CCC (bah)

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...us&dlc=en#N218
    go to very bottom of the page and click how to switch into fixed mode...anyways it got me thinking...

    how come after a clean install of ubuntu and no updated drivers i cant install CCC and just switch to the ATI chipset?

    The reason why is because i will just reboot into low graphics mode after the install of the 12-6 drivers

    So it begs the question are there any open source control centers for video cards to utilize the ATI chipset?

    Also what type of errors are thrown after the install of the 12-6 drivers for people that can't switch to dynamic in the BIOS. Where would you find this information?

    For instance if I install the AMD 12-6 drivers with an up to date BIOS and cant switch to dynamic. i re-boot into low graphics mode.

    I am interested to see the source of the problem or don't know if it has already been posted in the 40 page thread...

    i still dont have the internet set up at my house and could re-install ubuntu one last time to get the correct log up in the thread if somebody could give me directions lol

    Also, people on http://askubuntu.com/questions/19897...650-hd-to-work
    talk about something called Ubuntu Control Center. i go to the website though and its half in spanish and i dont know where the hell is the download they are talking about
    https://sites.google.com/site/ubuntucontrolcenter/

    One last noob question why wont vgaswitcharoo work for us in 12.04? thanks
