Normally the opensource driver cause overheating problem. Could you verify if you entered the command
    Code:
    amdconfig --initial -f
It creates a xorg.conf file with AMD proprietary drivers definitions. Should help on overheating problem.

I just want to advise after installing Catalyst 13.6 beta can cause backlight control stop working.

    To who it may concern,
there's an workaround by adding acpi_backlight=vendor at linux kernel line on /etc/default/grub file (as root):

    (example)
    /etc/default/grub:
    Code:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor"
then run update-grub2 command as root and reboot.

    Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works

    hi guys, help needed
I was trying to install ATI dual graphics on my HP dm4 2000 (GPU's are in the supported list) using the tutorial on the first page and after the very first reboot I've got the message regarding the low graphics mode because of incorrectly configured drivers. I'm stuck here with the two options:
-proceed to terminal mode with unconfigured hardware.
-roll back to a stock drivers and get a blank desktop.
Let me know pls, what's went wrong here, and how can I get my dual graphics ?
    Thnx

    UPD: ubuntu 13.04 on board

Post Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works

Please everyone with Intel+AMD Hybrid Graphic cards READ this:

As many installation instructions available on the web, it's difficult do find out the best procedure to install Intel+AMD Hybrid cards and put them to work flawlessly. Due to this, I made a lot of research and I've built my own procedure for this installation on Linux Systems. I've tested it on Ubuntu based systems 13.04+ (Xubuntu, Linux Mint 15 and Stock Ubuntu) and worked very well. 13.8 beta 1 driver used, please try by your own other drivers and post results.

However, regarding many different laptop/desktop manufacturers available over there, it's quite difficult to affirm if this procedure will work to everyone... I hope so and PLEASE, post if it worked for you or NOT (and let us help you)

The following installation instructions are was made by me as a collection, involving lots of instructions available in the Web and documentations (References available on the bottom)...

    BEFORE:
*It is recommended to install is on a fresh ubuntu 13.04 based install
*make sure you have no AMD fglrx driver installed:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx*
*Make sure your AMD discrete GPU is ACTIVATED through vgaswitcheroo:
    Code:
    sudo su
    echo ON > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
    exit
1 - Prepare the system to proprietary AMD driver manual installation, installing prerequisites on the system, to help to compile and create the correct amd driver according to your system. So, to install the driver compiler prerequisites, execute the following command in terminal:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install build-essential cdbs fakeroot dh-make debhelper debconf libstdc++6 dkms libqtgui4 wget execstack libelfg0 dh-modaliases linux-headers-generic xserver-xorg-core libgcc1 mesa-utils

64-bit (x86_64) ONLY: MUST execute this two commands also:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ia32-libs lib32gcc1 libc6-i386
cd /usr ; sudo ln -svT lib /usr/lib64
    Then, reboot system:
    Code:
    sudo reboot
2 - Install Intel Linux Graphics Installer
BEFORE AMD driver installation we have to install latest Intel driver. However, latest intel driver isn't available on Ubuntu repositories as default, so we have to install it through Intel linux Graphics Installer. This tool is developed by intel and supports latest Ubuntu version by default.
NOTE: Please read carefully Intel Linux Graphics Installer 2013Q2 webpage for complete notes and download it to other distributions and other Ubuntu versions:
    https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloa...-version-1.0.2

prepare a directory for Intel Linux Graphics Installer:
    Code:
    mkdir ~/IntelLinuxGraphicsInstaller
    cd ~/IntelLinuxGraphicsInstaller
2.1 - Download and Install Intel Linux Graphics Installer
    Ubuntu 13.04 64-bits (x86_64) systems:
    Code:
    wget https://download.01.org/gfx/ubuntu/13.04/main/pool/13.04/i/intel-linux-graphics-installer/intel-linux-graphics-installer_1.0.2-0intel3_amd64.deb
    sudo dpkg -i intel-linux-graphics-installer/intel-linux-graphics-installer_1.0.2-0intel3_amd64.deb
    Ubuntu 13.04 32-bits (x86) systems:
    Code:
    https://download.01.org/gfx/ubuntu/13.04/main/pool/13.04/i/intel-linux-graphics-installer/intel-linux-graphics-installer_1.0.2-0intel3_i386.deb
    sudo dpkg -i intel-linux-graphics-installer_1.0.2-0intel3_i386.deb
2.2 - Execute and Install Intel Linux latest Graphics Driver
    Code:
    sudo intel-linux-graphics-installer
Follow procedure window clicking on "Next" and "Install" then wait until driver installation successful completes.

Then, reboot your system by clicking on the Intel Linux Graphics Installer window Reboot button, or:
    Code:
    sudo reboot
2.3 - After rebooting just install Intel Linux Graphics Installer Public Key to trust on Intel repository for future updates:
"In order to "trust" the Intel® Linux Graphics Installer, you will need to add keys to Ubuntu's software package manager ("apt"). Open a terminal, and execute these line:"
    Code:
    wget --no-check-certificate https://download.01.org/gfx/RPM-GPG-KEY-ilg -O - | \
    sudo apt-key add -
    AND:
    Code:
    wget --no-check-certificate https://download.01.org/gfx/RPM-GPG-KEY-ilg-2 -O - | \
    sudo apt-key add -
3 - Create a driver directory and download driver direct from amd.com
    Code:
    cd ~/ && mkdir amd-fglrx-driver && cd amd-fglrx-driver
    wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/amd-catalyst-13.8-beta1-linux-x86.x86_64.zip
    unzip amd-catalyst-13.8-beta1-linux-x86.x86_64.zip
    chmod a+x amd-catalyst-13.8-beta1-linux-x86.x86_64.run
    3.1 - AMD 13.8 Beta 1 Driver Installation
    Code:
    ./amd-catalyst-13.8-beta1-linux-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/raring
    sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb
    3.2 - Post installation configuration
    Code:
    sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
    sudo amdconfig --initial -f
    sudo amdconfig --px-dgpu
4 - Reboot the system and check installation

    Code:
    sudo reboot
    after rebooting... check driver installation
    Code:
    fglrxinfo
    fgl_glxgears
    glxgears
Enjoy the powerful of Intel+AMD hybrid video experience on Linux!

PLEASE comments your results and HW configuration

Thumbs up Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works

I've been studying this issue for a long time, thanks to your post, i have successfully installed both amd and intel driver, and both in direct rendering . Now my laptop is much cooler.
I'll test HDMI output as soon as i get an HDMI wire.
ps. Under ubuntu 13.04, after i manually installed AMD discrete driver and reboot, i fall into this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/fglrx/+bug/1068661. but anyway this post works under 12.04.2, thanks a lot!

    Here's my result:

    • DELL Inspiron 14R (N4110), Intel HD 3000, AMD 6630m, HDMI Intel/AMD: not tested/not tested, VGA Intel/AMD: working/working
