I use a Nvidia but only a quick look and I saw some errors:

    Consult /var/lib/dkms/fglrx/9.010/build/make.log

Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

It appears to me that you did not run this command...
    Code:
    sudo ln -s /usr/src/linux-headers-3.7.0-4-generic/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h /usr/src/linux-headers-3.7.0-4-generic/include/linux/version.h
EDIT: maybe I pasted the wrong symlink command, posted tested one.

I've uploaded a patched version of AMDs newest fglrx drivers which works with Steam.
Of course, do the symlinking before installing it with "dpkg -i fglrx*.deb"

    well Beidl,

no luck - ARGHHHHHHH - everything up to amdconfig....went painfully but successfully- but after it, it either went to terminal, or after a very basic Xorg.conf file I manually wrote it just went to a grey screen. Deleting the file allows me to get into Kubuntu, and lshw recognizes the fglrx driver (Your version - patched, was installed), but it certainly isnt functioning. Assume I did eeverthing you said and alittle more too. Wow, at least it installed and allowed a reboot, and just the config process is screwing it up.

Is it hopeless, at this point? - or do You by chance have any other ideas. I sure thought this might work especially with yor extensive installation, and our similar systems - mine an HP Envy 17-2195 Intel HD3000/amd-Radeon 6850m, Any nore help will wure be appreciated - I will try anything.

    Mark
p.s. sorry I an not giving you all the details - as I am exhausted

Did you edit the 10fglrx file?
If not, get my Xsession script which does the same:
    Code:
    cd /etc/X11/Xsession.d/
    sudo wget https://github.com/beidl/amd-indicator/raw/master/11switchable
    And reboot.

Thanks Beidle for the Continued Help !!

No I din't have a clue what that 10fglrx file referred to. I will try what you just posted now and edit the results.
And please be as explicit as possible with the instructions as I am rusty w Linux as this problem has shoved me back inot Windows for the past 11 1/2 months arghhhhh. But I Do know how to cut and past commands in terminal -

and for othersw reading this here is the content of the file he uploaded "11switchable"
    ---------------------------------
    LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=${LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH}:/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri:/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri
    export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH

note: I am not surprised that I still couldnt login as I had made a minimal Xorrrg.conf file - as a desperate attempt to get it working last night. So now I have deleted eevery Xorg.conf type file which I am sure willlet me in (as it's the sudo amdconfig --initial -f; sudo amdconfig --px-dgpu) that always kills it - so I guess once I am back in - I will try ..
sudo amdconfig --initial -f; sudo amdconfig --px-igpu
in hopes that at least with the integrated card I might have a better chance (and with Beidl's script for the /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10fglrx already installed) Lets hope it's a miracuous day !!
I will edit it again either way,
    Cheers

OK I am about to do it I Just did the DREADED !!!!!
    sudo amdconfig --initial -f
which always hoses my reboot, so before I reboot I thought i would show you the resulting Xorg.conf, that invariably screws my reboot
(note - I also will do:
sudo amdconfig --px-igpu, before I reboot - wish me Luck.)

Hi Beidl I have tried the process again from the beginning,
I have upgraded x-org, unity, and linux kernals from the PPAs
    ppa:andrikos/ppa
    ppa:unity-team/sru
    ppaorg-edgers/ppa

but when I reboot and log in every thing seems ok except their is no unity.
    Code:
    brian@brian-inspiron5520:~$ unity
The program 'unity' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
    sudo apt-get install unity
    brian@brian-inspiron5520:~$ sudo apt-get install unity
