Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

    Hi!
I have HP ProBook 4530s. Cards is: Intel SB/AMD RadeonHD 6490M
    I install latest amd driver(12.9 beta) on my 3.5.4 kernel(Ubuntu 12.04.1).
AMD card work great, but I already have heater in my room, and I don't need it by my notebook.
When I use Intel card it can't use Unity3D(like some people named it).
    /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2

    GL vertex buffer object: no
    GL framebuffer object: yes
    GL version is 1.4+: yes

    Unity 3D supported: no
Step 2 in howto useless. 'cause in /usr/lib/dri/ folder(don't have /usr/lib32 folder) only one link to /usr/lib/fglrx/dri/fglrx_dri.so named fglrx_dri.so. There is no lib for intel video card.

    ls -la /usr/lib/dri

    Sory for my english, please.

Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

I have been using integrated graphics for several months now in an attempt to reduce power consumption, though it was still high compared to windows 7 (powertop showed range of 17-22 watts with typical use including web browsing).

I noticed the computer ran hotter under ubuntu 12.04 compared to windows 7 and became suspicous that the discrete gpu might still be on, even though I was using integrated graphics. So, I switched back to discrete graphics and I'm now I'm getting improved power usage of 13-17 watts!!

My laptop is a Samsung Chronos series 7. I had installed the catalyst drivers a while ago differently than the method posted in this forum. I installed fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle-updates through Synaptics. I have not had any other graphics problems.

I am just trying to find out if anyone might have an explanation, or if anyone else has noticed more power use with integrated graphics. Maybe I need to reinstall my drivers using this method.

I've got exactly the same behavior with my Samsung Serie 7 700Z3A-S02DE Chronos.

There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following.

No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig.

    Any ideas guys?

Dual HD7990 but show your pci have "01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 6800.."

    "ATI Technologies Inc Device 6800"?

    I'm missing something?
did you try the opensource driver first? IN CASE your card already is supported?

did you used "vgaswitcheroo" do disable the non used card ( in case of you are not using catalyst0?
    sudo echo 'OFF' > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

If no. then you have 2 cards working same time. This is the cause of TEMPERATURE.

Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

I have been out of the Ubuntu scene for a few months now and I was wondering is there are still problems with hybrid graphics, my laptop on Ubuntu was defaulting to the integrated chip, and nothing I could do would allow me to switch it off, to force it on the discreet chip, making the fglrx driver mess everything up (boot up failure).

I want to see how well one of my games runs under wine and for this I need the discreet chip with the fglrx driver, I have an ATI mobility radeon HD 5470 and a first gen i5.

    Any help will be appreciated.

wegah: I have not installed vgaswitcheroo. I only turned off the discrete chip through Catalyst.

If I want to use the integrated chip only, do I need run vgaswitcheroo in addition to Catalyst?

You don't install vgaswitcheroo. It's in the kernel. The one in Ubuntu 12.04 has vgaswitcheroo.

Asus B43 with Intel i5 and ATI 6470.

Anybody got anything working on Asus yet?

To the guy asking about Asus on this thread a couple weeks ago... I wouldn't get your hopes up. I've been trying(and checking back here occasionally) off and on since April. And I usually can't get a single response of any kind around here. I guess the point of this thread is for everyone who has a model of computer that it has been already established that it works on, to reconfirm that over and over and over.

I've tried every updated driver since 12-4... and it doesn't work. I even found a Asus Bios update over a month ago (and installed it). As has always been the case, the driver installs fine, but the ati-config command generates basically a blank file and on reboot... black screen... no graphics at all. So I delete the config file to get default graphics working again. Then I wait a month or so and try again.

Works great on my setup if you would like to add to your list:

    MSI FX420-050US, Intel HD 3000, AMD 6470m, HDMI Intel/AMD: not tested/not tested, VGA Intel/AMD: not tested/not tested

Thanks for the post, much appreciated.
