    VLC 2.0 for Lucid?

If anyone has a reasonably convenient way of installing VLC 2.0 in Lucid (64-bit), I'd very much appreciate the info.

I don't mind compiling, as long as I can use checkinstall (or something similar) so I can remove it later if I want to. But manually handling the long list of dependencies with versions > than the Lucid repository version scares me.

    Thanks,

Instructions to upgrade your VLC are here:

    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ubuntu.html

Looks like they recommend 1.1.x for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.

Yes, but I need 2.0 on my system.
    Code it.

VLC 2.0 will be in April's upcoming 12.04 LTS release.

Probably makes best sense to wait, then, and see about upgrading come April.

Still, I'll leave the thread "unsolved" in case anyone has come up with a good way of installing VLC 2.0 in Lucid.

Yeah, I have a feeling a lot of Lucid repos will be neglected now

Will have to see how smooth the transition from 10.04 to 12.04 actually is...
