Angry Using Ubuntu 11.10, can't find downloaded applications

I'm new to Ubuntu and am having a problem downloading new applications or programs? I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. Every time I try to download an application from the Ubuntu store, it looks like it's downloading, but when I look for it on the download file, it's empty and I can't find the application I just downloaded.

    Please help!

When you say the "download file" what are you referring to?

If you are downloading from the software centre, it will download and install the application.
To run it, click on the dashboard icon (top left) and type the first few letters of the application's name.
