Suggestion in short: Automatically close threads older than one year? So it matches the below quoted forum rule.
Suggestion in detail:
Today I learned that there is a forum rule that reads as follow
I understand the rule and I'm really happy to follow itIf a post is older than a year or so and hasn't had a new reply in that time, instead of replying to it, create a new thread. In the software world, a lot can change in a very short time, and doing things this way makes it more likely that you will find the best information. You may link to the original discussion in the new thread if you think it may be helpful.
But it seems that lots of time and energy is spent by forum moderators to manually close those threads older than one year. And users like me are likely to forget from time to time then revive from the dead an old thread. About the ubuntuforums.org system to automatically close threads older than one year and provide users with an automated reminder?
Attached is a screenshot of the expected result. After the user click on the "reply" button. This is the screen that would automatically be presented to them. Maybe this feature is already existing and it could simply be edited to be trigger when users try to post a reply to threads older than one year. To clarify the expected result try to post a reply at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=646692
Cheers
