Ubuntu 11.10 sound problems Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio card

I am very new to Ubuntu / Linux and have installed Ubuntu 11.10 this morning on my Dell XPS9100 (64 bits) running Windows 7 Pro (64 bits). I downloaded and successfully installed all available updates. I can now choose which operating system to boot, which is just what I wanted.

My Dell has a Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme audio card.

Everything is working *great* except for the audio, which is coming through in short, interrupted 1 or 2 seconds bursts. Would like to get the sound working properly in Ubuntu and will appreciate any help, thanks.

    Hello,

I had to go back to 11.04 because in 11.10 I could not get my sound to work. It works fine in ll.04
