    11.10 won't install on Macbook pro 5.1

I've decided to install Ubuntu 11.10 on my Late 2008 Macbook Pro (model 5,1), but when attempting to boot from the live cd, all I get is the main boot menu, then I briefly get a grey screen with a blinking white cursor, then the screen just goes black. The computer is still running, and I can still hear the cd drive, but I have no video. I've seen the tutorials for installing ubuntu on macbook pro, and I know it's been done successfully with no mention of such issues.

I used disk utility to make 2 partitions and rEFIT to boot.

This will probably be the issue :

The Natty LiveCD will not boot out of the box on MBP5,1 / MBP5,2 since nouveau fails on the 9600MGT (upstream bug report) - you can work around this by manually specifying the kernel command line option:

nouveau.noaccel=1 Some people have noticed that X wont start even with this setting unless the 9600Card is the selected card in macOS X here is the bug about it: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/787071

the "nomodeset" pressing f6 did the job booting the live cd , however I can't seem to get the wireless adapter working. I have no network cable, only wireless. Can I put the driver on a USB stick ?

As far as I know, you should get the Mac iso from this site

    http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/11.10/release/

If I remember correctly, there was a problem with the original iso and the one on the above site has the correct drivers.

    Used this

    http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/1...nate-amd64+mac

Got it running with wireless. Editted grub2 boot loader to boot with nouvea.noaccel=1

    Fixing some other issues now.

    - red light from the audio keeps burning
    - it runs hot
    - trackpad not working properly

    Taking a break for today
