Exclamation Stuck on old ver 3 of Fire fox

Hi all, I have been trying off and on, to upgrade this other older computer from FireFox 3 to FireFox better, The code I have been using works on MY computer which has Ubuntu ver 10.10 64bit but not on this one,
    here is the code

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    sudo apt-get install firefox

I think it may work with ver 5 of Firefox but don't know how-to install

    Dave

    Edit
I have tryed it all at one go, also 1 line at a time.. As for the computer it's a P4 with X ram maybe 700mb's I will have to look

Have you tried running Update Manager when Firefox was installed? I believe latest Firefox (10.0.2) was pushed for everyone, even those without the stable PPA in sources list.

It depends which version of ubuntu you're running. Are you sure the the ubuntu install in question is supported by the ppa?

Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 are no longer supported and there will be no packages found in the old repository addresses. Even if you tried the End-Of-Life repos you would still only get what you have already installed.

You should update your system to a supported version of ubuntu

Why,? this ver is very very stable, has never ever fail over, had a wee nap or nothing and that is from the day I installed it

So why do I want to upgrade firefox, I hear you ask, its because a 3rd party plug-in is temperamental

Not every up-grade is grate, not even good, ms vista come to mind.. Ubuntu 11, some people, "me" just do not like so called smart phones or that gui, But I do like the look of ver 12

Hi, the reason you should update to a newer version is for newer package support including security, with your version of ubuntu you are more likely to get a virus or hacked.
    Thanks

    Hi ,
All versions of Ubuntu are supported for 18 Months from the day of deliver. Except of LTS versions. (Long Term Support) they are supported for 3 years . Recently Canonical(mother of Ubuntu) decide that LTS versions will be supported for 5 years.
The latest LTS version of Ubuntu is 10.04. The End-Of-Life is April 2013.
Another LTS version will be release at 48 days from now. Ubuntu 12.04. Right now is on beta version.
    Read here for more -- > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Plus, you'd have to install many apps by hand ... but hey, who am I talking to, starting a thread about being virtually unable to upgrade Firefox any higher than version 3?!

    Regards.
