hi all.
noticed some odd behaviour with my headerless 11.04 server.
3.0.0-16-generic (as of 13/2/12) is installed and shows in grub's menu.lst but when the machine boots it uses 3.0.0-14-generic.
any ideas as to what might be causing this?
cheers.

you know its love when you memorise her ip address to save dns overhead
run 'dpkg --status linux-generic' and make sure it is installed ok.
then check /boot/grub/menu.lst and see what the default kernel selection is.
hey.
thanks for your reply.
'dpkg --status linux-generic' reports that 3.0.0.15.17 is installed correctly.
in menu.lst '3.0.0-15-generic' is the first choice after ## ## End Default Options ##.
hmmm.

is 'default' set to 0 then in menu.lst?
'## default num'?
yes it is.
'default 0'

then I would try to reboot and watch what happens.
i'm afraid it's a remote box that i don't have physical access to. no monitor attached to it either.
wonder if the logs will shine any light on it.
thanks for your time.

are you sure it has been rebooted since the newest kernel was installed then? what does 'uptime' say?
i rebooted it twice this afternoon...grudgingly no change in the kernel version.

Can you post your menu.lst?
I would also check /var/log/apt/term.log and history.log and /var/log/dpkg.log to see if anything went wrong during the update.
May as well do 'apt-get update / apt-get dist-upgrade' as well again too.
