Error authenticating some packages when trying to partial upgrade.

    I am running Ubuntu 9.10
    - the Karmic Koala - released in October 2009 and supported until April 2011.
Well this is the only Ubuntu Cd I could get my hands on .Now trying to upgrade but update Manager says "Not all updates can be installed" So I have the option to PARTIAL UPGRADE only. I try that ->Error authenticating some packages when trying to partial upgrade.
I try to do sudo apt-get update n sudo apt-get install -f all this fails to fetch the dependencies that are broken ..
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

I think its easier just to get a up to date CD, but if you want to:

Edit: Another thought. The latest Ubuntu uses Gnome3 and you (Karmic 9.10) use gnome2.
If you upgrade to the latest, there is a very good chance of breakage.
