Suggestion for small laptop/netbook to run BackTrack 5 R1 on

I have an ASUS laptop running Backtrack 5 R1 KDE 32, which is around 16 inches with a network card that is called AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter, which has the following driver: ath9k. As this laptop is rather large and quite heavy to carry around with me, I would like to purchase a smaller laptop that will also contain a supported wireless network adapter such as the one mentioned above.

Here is what I am interested in:

-The laptop should be compatible with BackTrack 5 R1 and also I should be able to install and run Windows XP/Vista/7.

I should be able to crack wireless networks (of course ones that I set-up myself and that belong to me)

Can anybody suggest such a laptop (preferably a 2011/2012 model) which will run BT/Windows successfully?

I also need the laptop to have long battery-life as I want to use it's portability.

I would be happy if somebody can provide me with links from Amazon.co.uk, as I would like to purchase from there.

    Thank you all.

I suggest you try this the other way around. Look for a laptop then look on the internet to see how people got on installing Ubuntu. BackTrack is an Ubuntu based distro. If you buy a new laptop it will probably come with Win 7.

    I don't mind it having Windows 7 as I'll install BT5 to dual-boot.

Hi there, lot's of really good posts. I can only go by my personal experience.

I have a samsung NC10 netbook that's dirt cheap and full out of the box support nowadays - it's just the brightness steps that need changing. I think Samsung netbooks are a good place to go because of the voria repo - add in all the little extras that were meant to work under windows - slowdown, wifi function keys those kind of things

    Hi Dak0

I need something smaller, between the range of 10" or 12" inch.

What about ASUS eee pc, are there any compatible models priced around £200-£300?

Ah sorry mine's a 2008.. but it's a netbook so no much has changer performance wise. I was more putting in a play for samsung just because of my personal experience of absolutely no problems and it running all OS up to win 7 ultimate as well as the repo I linked - it's a project to fully support samsung net-books on linux and been helping me out for 3 years
