Re: How to install awn ???

not sure what problems you are having with AWN.. I will say the best chance of getting it to work is to upgrade the version of Ubuntu. 8.04 is quite old and may not have everything AWN needs to run properly. I do know AWN needs Compiz or some other compositing system to work, and I also recall trying it out a couple years ago and having a few issues getting it running. The latest Ubuntu seems to run much better and I have had no issues with AWN on either of the 11.x versions.

Thumbs up Re: How to install awn ???

i've installed 9.10 Karmic before....but when i start updating it, message appears ''This version is no more supported''....
i upgraded it to 10.04 LTS..after installation my screen goes blank but the computer remains ON...my pc is not supporting....idk why this is happening...
then i visited a website ''releases.ubuntu.com''. i found this 8.04 Hardy Heron version..
i thought it's a new version that's why i downloaded and installed it...
plz can you tell me how to get through this....
i mean which version i shud install or what to do .....

    Hi! apoorv.jain,

A lot depends on what sort of system you have and what you want to do.
Other things being equal, Ubuntu 11.10 is currently probably the best for most situations.

But please Post your computer details and what is installed now.
    Any Special needs?
    Desktop , laptop or what?
    CPU and GPU
    HDD 1 or more?
    How many Partitions?
    Free hdd space?
    SSD ?
    Memory
    Which Windows if any?

Dont let the Blank Screen put you off, if you still get one, this is where you can get help.

    Hi! apoorv-jain.

Uburtu 11.10 should be OK with that.
Your best bet is to download the .iso file and create a Live CD - if you have a writer - or a Live Usb and boot from that.

Try it out first if you have any doubts. Then you can use it to Install.

Check you get the right .iso. For 32bit it will be "ubuntu-11.10-i386.iso".

    Good Luck.

Re: How to install awn ???

Being that 8.04 and 9.10 are no longer supported installing 10.04 or a newer version would be a good idea . 11.10 is very different than even 10.04,so testing the live cd is a good suggestion . That way you won't have any surprises .
