Oneric and Pangolin regarding kernel on upgrading

Hi guys I'm new in ubuntu lets say i will buy a new laptop next month and will shift to ubuntu so the latest version as of now will be ocelot which run in old kernel older than 3.2 i'm not sure, but when pangolin was release if i will upgrade using the update manager or terminal is my system kernel will be automatically 3.2 running in 64 bit, and even if my setup of ocelot is 32 bit, will it automatically be converted upon upgrade?

Re: Oneric and Pangolin regarding kernel on upgrading

If you upgrade from Oneiric Ocelot to Precise Pangolin you'll receive a new kernel, and new packages, but they will be for the same architecture (so 32-bit Oneiric will upgrade t 32-bit Precise)

If you want to switch from 32-bit to 64-bit you'll have to do a reinstall instead of an upgrade. That's not necessarily a hassle. You can back up all your files and settings and the system can reinstall all your programs with one command.
