Re: How to Sync your Blackberry in Linux

    Hi all,

I am a noob. I'v just installed barry and all of the other rpms that come along with it from sourceforge. I think that went okay, but I am not seeing a GUI anywhere. Could anyone give me some tips on how to actually use barry or point me to some documentation?

    Thanks,
    ed

Re: How to Sync your Blackberry in Linux

Hi. I'm a newbie in Linus and using Ubuntu 7.04. It's been few days now that I'm trying ti figure out how to charge my Blackberry 8100 (Pearl) thru the USB cable. I failed to follow the steps provided in BB forums to properly download and istall bcharge. Nevertheless, to my great surprise, I just found out that it DOES CHARGE! The yello Charging Icong on BB's screen stays on, an error message "USB power is insufficient......" appears for few seconds but it does charge to 100%.

My concern is whether it will damage anything in my Blackberry or not. If you guys ever encountered with the same problem please enlighten me on this issue. Thanks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

This worked great for me! The gcalsync website offers a few tips to get you up and running, so I recommend that for everyone... With that there are still a few areas that need to be addressed (editing on phone, repeating events), but are fairly minor and hopefully updated soon!

FYI, I'm using a BB 8100 for anyone that needs t/s help

    Hi all!

After reading through this thread I thought I'd take a look at Berry first and alas, it has developed greatly, including the GUI which is small but looks very nice.

However, my problem begins much earlier: when I plug in my BlackBerry 7230 it begins to charge right away (even w/o bcharge), but dmesg output shows NOTHING. No "USB device attached" message like with mice and webcams and whatnot. No nothing - does this happen for anybody else, too?

I don't think it is a problem with Linux, but rather with my specific BlackBerry device, as the Desktop Manager under Windows doesn't work either

Although i don't have a 7230, I would suspect that you are correct about it being the device.

I have a new 8830 and can't get any of these things to work, Barry, nor syncevolution, nor barry util or ANYTHING! IT SUCKS!

But you do get a message in dmesg about the Blackberry being plugged in?

Re: How to Sync your Blackberry in Linux

I was following the instructions on the original post which was to use scheduleworld to do a synch with Google Calendar, Evolution Calendar, and BB calendar.

My priority was google and BB.

I had no problem installing the funambol client on BB and set up the account on scheduleworld to use funambol.

However, setting up the connection configuration on the BB Perl, is still problematic. T-Mobile, like the other vendors have public info on the regular phone WAP gateway. For T-mobile, that is:
    wap.voicestream.com
    216.155.165.50
    port 9201

They gave me that on the first call, which had to be set in the options: advanced: TCP: APN setting.

The second call, they also mentioned that there was a RIM gateway: blackberry.net.
    --

Just putting this in the TCP setting did not seem to impact the Funambol client.

The configuration in funambol also includes an APN gateway, but also insists on an IP gateway if you enter that value (i.e. blackberry.net). Using NSLOOKUP on that returns 216.9.245.101. Port I am assuming to be 9201 , since that seems to be the default.
