Ubuntu 11.10 Eee PC 701 CPU and Graphics

I currently have Ubuntu 11.10 installed on my Eee PC 701 and I have two questions. Is there a way, using Ubuntu, to increase the CPU's speed from 600Mhz to its full speed of 900Mhz?

Also, is there a way to improve the graphics performance? Thank you.

CPU frequency scaling is usually done automatically due to demand placed on the CPU. So, if you run CPU intensive stuff the frequency should increase.

With the 701, the CPU is set hard for 600Mhz. It's capable of 900Mhz, it's a 900Mhz chip, but they down-clocked it to 600Mhz to extend the battery.

I know there are some utilities for other distributions which allow you to fully open the CPU, so I was wondering if an easy-to-use utility had been written for Ubuntu.
