    Gnome software installer missing menus

    Hello,

    I'm using 12.10 Gnome-Remix 64-bit, and the software installer doesn't appear with the menus it is meant to have. A screenshot looks like this;

You can see that the various categories down the sides are as they should be, but there isn't the menu bar as there should be. Here is the image of the software from the 'Help' system, with the menu bar showing.

What can I do to make this menu bar display?

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

If you click on the app's name in the title bar. Do you have menu items there? Or just basic close option?

Do other gnome native apps show their menu ok?

Do you have any other shell installed that uses a global menu, like unity?

    Yougo,

    Thanks for your reply.

Clicking on the "Software" entry on the top panel gives a menu with the following options:

    "Check for Updates"
    "Software Sources"
    "Refresh Package Lists"
    "Software Log"
    "Only Newest Versions" (on/off)
    "Only Native Packages" (on/off)
    "Help"
    "About Software Install"
    "Quit"

There are no other shells installed - it's just Gnome-Remix.

What other gnome native apps might I have on the machine? (Sorry for the thick question).

Re: Gnome software installer missing menus

Other gnome native apps would be

    Nautilus/Files
    Evolution
    Eye of Gnome
    Tomboy
    Cheese

Gnome is working towards eliminating the need for a menu bar. Are you sure the sreenshots you posted are of the same release version of the app? Maybe they deemed the menu ready for removal.

Re: Gnome software installer missing menus

    Yougo,

    Thanks - again.

Those other apps work as they should. Well, Nautlus and Image Viewer (eye of Gnome) do with menus all displayed as they should.

I see your point about the menus maybe not being intended to be there on the software installer app, although operation of it doesn't seem to make sense without them (as in, the menus are the only way into some features which are essential, as far as I can see.)

Good idea tho' - thanks. I'll do some more research and see whether it really is as it should be. In the meantime, if anyone else knows the answer then please do post up here ... thanks!
