I am running on Ubuntu 11.04 and was using kernel version 2.6.38-13-generic. I tried to install kernel version 3.0.0-0300-generic. Once I installed it I reboot my computer and selected the new kernel in GRUB. My computer then froze with a solid purple screen. I had to force my computer off by holding the power button. Now when I rebooted, I selected Previous Linux Versions and selected 2.6.38-13-generic and it works fine. What can I do to install the latest kernel without updating to Ubuntu 11.10? What did I do wrong last time? If there is no way to install a newer kernel, how can I completely remove 3.0.0-0300-generic so I don't have to select Previous Linux Versions every time I boot my computer?
