Where does Software center put apps

I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 and am lost as to how to expand the application bar to add new applications and when Software Center installs a new application, where does it go. I've added several applications through the center but there is no change to the desktop or available applications.

Press the top button, the one with the ubuntu logo on it. You can then search for apps that you've installed.
To add them to the bar, just drag and drop them into the bar. To remove them, either right-click and untick 'keep in launcher', or drag them to the rubbish bin.
