    Black Screen at Install

    Hi there,

I'm having a little trouble with installing Ubuntu on my Mac. Or any Mac for that matter. Whenever I boot into the USB or CDR of the install it boots to the language selection screen then the options menu to try ubuntu, install ubuntu etc. I choose install ubuntu and it looks as though it's going to proceed then the entire computer goes black and after a time the screen powers up again but is still black. The only difference is that I can see the backlighting of the screen.

It doesn't go anywhere from there. I've tried this multiple times. On an iMac, MacBook Pro and Air. I've tried it with CDRs USB sticks and various versions of Ubuntu. I use the right version of Ubuntu but I have still tried other variants for good measure. The result is reproduced exactly in every situation. I've looked at many install instructions to no avail.

What am I doing wrong? Is the issue right under my nose?

did you replace the "quiet nosplash" with "nomodeset" in the boot parameters?

Yeah that sounds right. I found this post: http://dustin.li/2011/05/how-to-inst...on-a-mac-mini/

I'm going to give his fix a try and report. Thanks!
