There has got to be a better way though.
Yeah, that's what I thought too. I really like pypanel, so it would be great to be able to use it.

I think running shutdown -z should do it
Strange. I get this:
Code:
$: ~ > sudo shutdown -z
Password:
shutdown: invalid option -- z
Usage: shutdown [-akrhHPfnc] [-t secs] time [warning message]
                  -a: use /etc/shutdown.allow
-k: don't really shutdown, only warn.
                  -r: reboot after shutdown.
                  -h: halt after shutdown.
-P: halt action is to turn off power.
-H: halt action is to just halt.
-f: do a 'fast' reboot (skip fsck).
                  -F: Force fsck on reboot.
-n: do not go through "init" but go down real fast.
                  -c: cancel a running shutdown.
-t secs: delay between warning and kill signal.
** the "time" argument is mandatory! (try "now") **
Adding those lines to rc.xml worked fine though. Thanks alot!

Re: random openbox chatter

Hmm... that site I linked to listed it, so I assumed it would work. Perhaps there is a suspend command?

Re: random openbox chatter

Well there is a command called suspend, but it doesn't do anything on my system (and there's no man page and no --help switch).

[Edit]I found out that I could run gnome-power-preferences and make it show a system tray icon, so this solves the problem of showing a battery indicator in the panel. However, when I right click the battery and select Suspend, it just activates the screensaver. I find all this quite strange since it works from within Gnome. I have gnome-power-manager running in the background btw (don't know if that matters)[/Edit]

I am new to this forum and not too sure how to use it, but here goes. I don't know if I'm speaking to a group or an individual, but here is my question. How and where do I input the following data, in order to improve the performance of my ATI Radeon x700 on my laptop. I don't know much about programming, but I can follow directions well. Thank you very much...James

Question Re: random openbox chatter

I have a question. I saw on planet openbox that someone was working on a pager. What does that do? Is it something that can be incorporated in pypanel or is it something else? Sort of like holding down Alt+Tab? Or is it more like a notification area for tomboy and gaim etc?

Re: random openbox chatter

Um, fortherose, that doesn't seem to be an ObenBox question? Maybe you should post it as a separate thread?

Anyway, seems like the solution to my suspend problem was to simply do an MS-style reboot

Re: random openbox chatter

to answer two questions, pypanel can't b changed very much. You can't add any indicators, but i really like the pager. I've set mine to right click on it to go right, left click to go left. Put it in the corner of the screen and it's very fast.

For all the monitors and pager stuff that you need, look into the Dockapps. Grab a few from http://dockapps.org/ , make, make install, and just run the program to put it in the dock.

Put them in your autostart file to make them run automagikely, and make sure the dock is where you want it, this can be set from your rc.xml, or from obconf.

Here's what i've found works best (in rc.xml) in terms of not messing with other windows:

Code:
<dock>
  <position>Floating</position>
  <stacking>Bottom</stacking>
  <direction>Vertical</direction>
  <floatingX>0</floatingX>
  <floatingY>0</floatingY>
  <autoHide>yes</autoHide>
  <hideDelay>300</hideDelay>
  <moveButton>A-Left</moveButton>
</dock>

try looking into the acpi and apm commands... they deal with suspend and hibernate. Newer computers usually have acpi, but only apm has a command
Code:
apm --suspend
Anyway, it has to do with those.

Later i'll make a little dialog for yall with turn off, reboot, etc stuff... like the old gnome one was (the new one can be cloned in python, i only know bash)
