Hi,
I'm connected with Gigabit Ethernet with my server 11.10 (via a Apple Airport Extreme router).
When I run iperf, I get different speed when I download or I upload to the server:
Code:
-- From the server (10.0.1.2) --
mike@localserver:~$ iperf -c 10.0.1.105 -d
------------------------------------------------------------
Server listening on TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.3 KByte (default)

Client connecting to 10.0.1.105, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 178 KByte (default)

[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth

[ 4] 0.0-10.0 sec 180 MBytes 151 Mbits/sec
-- From the client (10.0.1.105), (iperf.exe -c 10.0.1.2 -d) --
[1860] local 10.0.1.105 port 1785 connected with 10.0.1.2 port 5001
[1836] local 10.0.1.105 port 5001 connected with 10.0.1.2 port 35471
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[1836] 0.0-10.0 sec 958 MBytes 804 Mbits/sec
[1860] 0.0-10.0 sec 175 MBytes 146 Mbits/sec
The server is using the onboard gbit NIC
I've installed an Ubuntu Server on a dual core 2Ghz CPU and 1 gig RAM with onboard NIC (Motherboard: Gigabyte Ga-k8n-f9 rev.1)
The cables are CAT5E (server to Airport Extreme) & CAT5 (client to aiport extreme)
Should I buy CAT6 cables and a new standalone nic for the server ? The client is a Thinkpad R61i.
Thank you !
